Flickr Spotlight | Interview and International Recognition

An extensive Flickr Spotlight feature explored my photographic vision and travel story, from aerial photography to intimate street scenes.

In the article, I talk about my motto, Carpe Diem, and how years of flying for KLM sharpened my view of the world. Traveling taught me to look closely and embrace wonder, turning photography into both a creative outlet and a way to be fully present in the moment.

Flickr describes how my work moves between scale and detail: from large-scale aerial shots where pattern, rhythm, and color take center stage, to street scenes where atmosphere, light, and humanity lead. That contrast between overview and detail forms the core of my visual language.

The interview also covers my photographic journey: how I was captivated by photography in 2015, how Instagram and Flickr accelerated my development, and how a workshop became the starting point for my technical growth. Since then, I've worked deliberately on composition, light, and camera technique, with a focus on simplicity and timing.

The article also discusses my sources of inspiration, including the Dutch Old Masters, and my love for three genres: street photography, landscape, and architecture. Favorite cities come up too, such as Chicago, a city I experience as cinematic, full of strong lines and contrasts.

Finally, I share my approach to workflow and post-processing. I see photo editing as a creative process much like painting: enhancing mood, light, and emotion without distorting the moment itself.

Flickr | Travel Photography Explored

A separate Flickr feature explored my perspective on travel photography, in conversation with two other photographers.

In this interview, I share my experiences, favorite locations, and insights about traveling with a camera. The article highlights how differently photographers approach the world, and how travel fuels and deepens creativity.

I talk about my first photography trip through the United States in 2017, a journey that sparked my lasting love for travel photography. From the calm of String Lake in Grand Teton to the overwhelming landscapes of Utah, these moments remain a major source of inspiration.

Cities like Chicago, New York, and Toronto also come up, and how night street photography there added an extra layer to my work. The interplay of artificial light, architecture, and human presence enhances the cinematic quality I find in these cities.

I also discuss my technical and practical approach while traveling: handling difficult lighting conditions, my preference for natural light, and my use of bracketing and long exposures. This combination allows me to preserve atmosphere and detail without losing the spontaneity of the moment.

Together, the article paints a personal picture of how travel, observation, and photography are inseparable for me.

Honorable Mention for my series Birds Eye, Hong Kong

At the Drone Photo Awards 2025, I received a Commended Award for my series Birds Eye, Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a visual paradise for me: a city full of rhythm, energy, and architecture that surprises from every angle. Normally I shoot from street level, but for this series I took to the air.

From above, hidden structures and patterns came to life, details you would never see from the ground. This recognition underscores my ongoing search for new perspectives in urban photography.

International Photography Awards (IPA)

Honorable Mention for my photo Manhattan to Brooklyn

At the IPA, I received an Honorable Mention for my long-exposure shot of the Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. The image shows New York at rest, a city that rarely stands still, but here seems to breathe.
